Harvester Program
Hunger is a year-round issue.
That is why becoming a Harvester is so vital to everything Second Harvest
does. Harvesters consist of compassionate, dedicated individuals who make a
gift to Second Harvest each month. Please consider giving just $1 a day or
$30 a month.
To find out more on how you
can become a Harvester, contact Rachel Graves at 816-364-3663 x203 or
rgraves@secondharvest.org
Tribute Gifts
Tribute
gifts may be made in memory of someone or to commemorate a holiday,
birthday, wedding or other special occasion. Second Harvest will send a
personalized card to the person(s) you designate. To do so online, simply
designate the person you would like to make a tribute gift to with their
mailing address through PayPal. You may also make tribute gifts via mail.
When you send the donation, please include a note with the person’s name and
mailing address.
Tribute gifts will be listed
in our newsletter, Feeding Hope.
Workplace Giving
Matching Gifts- Many companies
will match their employees’ gifts to charitable organizations. If your
employer is one of them, you can double you gift by filling out a simple
form. Ask your employer about their matching gifts program.
Planned Gifts
A planned gift to Second
Harvest helps ensure that we’ll have the means to combat hunger well into
the future. Planned or deferred gifts can take many forms: life insurance
proceeds, a portion of an estate, or income from a trust. Each type of
planned gift provides unique tax benefits to the donor and his or her
beneficiaries. Planned gifts should be arranged with the advice of your
professional counsel.
For more information on the
many ways you can support the work of Second Harvest, please contact Rachel
Graves, development director, at 816.364.3663 x 203 or
rgraves@secondharvest.org.
Backpack
Buddies
Did you know that 54% of
the children in the St. Joseph elementary schools qualify for free or
reduced lunch?
Backpack
Buddies provides nutritious, kid-friendly, single-serve food to children on
free or reduced lunch. Weekend food packs are placed in a backpack and
handed out to children who would otherwise be at risk of going hungry over
the weekend. Second Harvest hopes to serve 1,350 children in a 7-county*
area through Backpack Buddies for the 2009 - 2010 school year, including 715
children in St. Joseph schools.
Serving 715 St. Joseph children in the upcoming school year will be an
increase of 65 children and will include every St. Joseph elementary school.
We need your help to do this!

Backpack Buddies
Regionally, Second
Harvest will provide the Backpack Buddies program in the following counties:
Andrew, DeKalb, Grundy, Harrison and Livingston counties in Missouri and
Brown and Leavenworth counties in Kansas. This is made possible through
partnerships with the following agencies: Andrew County Ministries, Circle
of Friends Sorority and Living Hope Food Pantry in DeKalb County, Community
Food Pantry in Grundy County, Grand River Area YMCA in Chillicothe, Harrison
County Food Pantry in Harrison County and Leavenworth Clergy Association and
NEK-CAP Head Start in Leavenworth and Brown counties.
Food and Fund Drives
Holding a food and fund drive
is a fun and easy group activity and helps give people a sense of social
responsibility. Food and fund drives also provide critically needed
nonperishable food.
For more information on how to
organize your own food drive, and most needed foods, contact Melissa
Leander, annual funds and marketing coordinator, at 816.364.3663 x 208
or mleander@secondharvest.org,
