According to Hunger in
America 2006, a study Second Harvest conducted in partnership with
Mathematica Policy Research:

20 percent of the clients
served by Second Harvest are over age 50 to 65
-
20 percent are 65 and older
-
An additional 20 percent are
under age 18
-
Nearly one-third of the
households served by Second Harvest have at least one member that is
employed, though the average monthly household income is only $790.

Fifty-eight percent of the
clients we serve have completed high school and/or attended some type of
post-secondary education.

Nearly one-third of the
clients we serve have made a choice between paying for food and paying for
heat in the past 12 months
-
Roughly 20 percent have chosen
between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care over that
same time period.
